Why did you seek out training at Carpe Diem Personal Training?
I wasn’t actively seeking out training. It found me by way of my friend and Matthew’s client, Michelle Carlisle, when I was diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and Type 2 diabetes in April 2014. Michelle knew how frustrated I was with doctors not knowing why I rapidly gained 50 pounds within 6 months, in spite of very clean eating and regular exercise. I became ill from the Metformin prescribed to reduce insulin resistance and help lose weight (it didn’t do either). So, Michelle arranged a meeting with Matthew, and I started training with him the next day.
Over the course of the past 10 months training with Matthew, I am a lot stronger and a bit leaner. When I was lifting amps and drum kits with ease at Girls Rock NC summer camp last summer, I knew I was getting results.
Please list any short and/or long term goals you currently have and/or have achieved.
While I haven’t achieved the 90 pound weight loss long term goal, I have not gained additional weight and we are seeing marked improvement of my Ph levels and lean muscle mass gain. My energy level and stamina have improved tremendously. I am a lot more confident, in spite of my discomfort around current body image. My long term goals are to continue training to help reverse the insulin resistance and (hopefully) see more fat loss, eventually reaching my goal weight. I won’t stop training once that goal is met. I want to continue strength training for as long as my body allows me to.
Any thoughts about working with Matthew or your experience thus far at Carpe Diem Personal Training?
I truly enjoy working with Matthew. He provides a very safe approach to training … I don’t feel like the fat girl in the middle of the gym. He is very sensitive to my energy levels and pushes me hard enough where we see results, without annihilating my adrenals. The BioSignature program and recommended supplements are wonderful tools shared with my medical team to track my progress. I have had more success through training than with any medication my doctors throw at me. I highly recommend training at Carpe Diem. Matthew will show you just how strong and awesome you are!!
